Nora Out [Jan. 26th, 2010|11:29 pm]
CHER NEOPOLIS ACADEMY

I must regrettably inform you that neither SCI 101/102/103 nor SCI 203 will be offered this upcoming trimester, nor will there be another course to replace them. Due to personal research and a project which will require the whole of my energy and attention, I will be taking a sabbatical from teaching for the duration of this term. And you must understand that most working mothers get some sort of maternity leave that is not spent locked in the harem of Caesar's palace, but that is neither here nor I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause many of you who are in the midst of your quantum chaos and those of who will be new to the academy this year, but be assured that I intend to reinstate my courses (as well as a few new surprises) in the summer or fall. In the interim, I do not intend to leave the island for any great length of time, and may still be available via email and occasionally by office phone, should you need to contact me for any reason, though I do not intend to hold regular office hours.

I am sure I will see many of you in the campus laboratories from time to time, but in the event that I do not, I will miss quite a few of you I wish you nothing but the best of successes in all of your academic endeavors.

Happy hypothesizing,
LMC

Additionally: If there is anyone who is currently seeking extracurricular employment, he might consider contacting me, as I will be interested in hiring a few qualified students to babysit from time to time. I will warn you, however, that I will be quite strict in my definition of "qualified."

ATTENTION NEOPOLIS ACADEMY DIASPORA

In brief: while the power-prevention effect has been disabled, it is imperative that you do not remove your "collars" until you are safely back within the Neopolis city limits, as the devices may be your sole means of transport. At this time, we are attempting to reconfigure the mechanisms for teleportation--destination: Neopolis.

However, in order to perform trans-national, trans-planetary (and, indeed, trans-dimensional) experimentation with what is now rather defunct machinery, I will need cooperation from whomever of my colleagues is willing and able to offer it. Anyone who may be scientifically schooled in the areas of radiology, quantum mechanics, super-bio neurology, or god help us time travel, or who has previously performed advanced studies in the mechanics of magic (and any of the subfields therein), I will require your assistance.

We are, now, to witness an end to this Greco-Roman bullshit, but we must work together in oder to orchestrate a synchronized maneuver that will break us free of our bonds, and open the gates for a horde of able comrades-at-arms.

The Good Madame is Enraged to the Point of Impoliteness [Jan. 3rd, 2010|02:09 pm]
ATTENTION ALL SCIENCE STUDENTS

I have been without network access for exactly twenty-three hours, thirty-eight minutes, and eleven seconds. I want full status reports from any of you who are able to provide it. And if anyone is still on the island at this time, it is imperative that he give me a detailed analysis of the academy grounds. IMMEDIATELY.

[Faculty]

Pardon my French, but might I be able to interest any of you in assisting me with hypothesizing a means of getting the fuck out of here?

ATTENTION LES SCIENCE NERDS ATTENTION STUDENTS ENROLLED IN SCI ATTENTION NEOPOLIS FRIENDS

Bonjour, tout le monde! Students who are enrolled in whatever classes my Dr. Curie-Capet teaches, I am sending a message on her behalf to say that she will not be available to administer final exams this week (the first week of finals, she says; she says she will be "back in proper working order" after Christmas, but we will just see about that!). She asks that you treat what she calls the "proxy" with respect--this is meaning no funny business, n'est pas!--and that if you have any questions, now is the time to ask! I will be able to answer them here for her. Oh, and she is saying to remind you that "advanced" students need to have their mannif mannyf "manifestos" in her inbox by the 30th of December.

Bon chance, et joyeux Noël, tout le monde!

ATTENTION ALL OF NEOPOLIS ACADEMY AND YOUR MOTHERS

This may seem a bit out of place on this journaling system, but I confess to you, Neopolis Academy, I am at a loss. Has anyone been able to find the Exclusive Dr. Horrible vs. Band Legends Deluxe Collector's Pack action figure set? If anyone--anyone--who reads this knows where I might be able to locate this product, or knows someone who might be able to point me in the direction of this product, I would be forever grateful.

Thank you in advance,

When my monster from his slab began to rise [Oct. 30th, 2009|06:31 pm]
ATTENTION STUDENTS AND FACULTY

I was working in the lab a bit late tonight, when to my surprise my little project took off rather unexpectedly well. If anyone happens upon a small dog covered with stitches and sporting a smart pair bolts on either side of the neck, might you be kind enough to return him to me immediately? He will respond to the name Guillaume.

Many thanks in advance,

The Good Madame Is Energized (should have disclaimer attached) [Oct. 6th, 2009|06:46 pm]
ATTENTION NEOPOLIS ACADEMY SCIENCE FACULTY
I would just briefly like to draw your attention to the 2009 Nobel Prize for Physics, which was awarded today to two so-called "revolutionary optical technologies." The awardees were Charles K. Kao, who discovered how to transmit light through fiber optics, and the team of Willard S. Boyle and George E. Smith, who designed the first digital-imaging sensor. Honestly, though their field of choice is merely tech, these are two hacks equally admirable projects, which you would all do well to emulate (and transcend, as I'm sure many of us are capable of doing).

Course Plug [Sep. 26th, 2009|08:03 am]
ATTENTION NEOPOLIS ACADEMY STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS
Thank goodness we shall all be getting back to work in just a few As tradition seems to mandate, I will, once again, be offering two courses: SCI 203/303 "Harnessing Radioactivity" and SCI 102/202/302 "Quantum Physics." Each of these courses will remain open to beginners as well as intermediate students, and will now provide further studies for advanced students. The lecture series in both will serve the needs of incoming students and experienced students equally, as we will be dividing our time: lectures on the first day of the week for each course will offer introductory lessons on the fields of radiation and quantum mechanics. Advanced students will not be required to attend these lecture, though they may wish to use these days to complete their guided independent course work. Subsequent lecture days will be mandatory for all students.

To enroll in Radioactivity, register for SCI 203 or 303 (please note: you must have completed a prerequisite of Quantum Physics 102 in order to take Radioactivity 203, and you must complete 203 before registering for 303, and so on), and Quantum Physics as SCI 102, 202, or 303, former experience and/or enrollment depending.

Before registering, you may wish to glean over the updated Quantum Physics course syllabus (which can be found here), in order to gain perspective on the course load and time commitment required (this will also be indicative of the level of difficulty of Harnessing Radioactivity, though the assignments will differ quite a bit). Students who have previously been enrolled may want to take note of the reading list, as it has changed significantly since last term (in particular, I think you will find the volumes on String Theory and the Holographic Principle of interest).

I look forward to an invigorating term, and I expect there will no longer be a need for any more of those pesky free A's.

Regards,
LMC

Public Safety Announcement [Aug. 11th, 2009|07:18 pm]
ATTENTION NEOPOLIS ACADEMY
I would like to call the attention of the entire academy regarding a recent theft in the Science Faculty.  Consider this a public safety announcement, as well as a request that anyone with information surrounding a few missing objects from my lab (experiment plans, lab reports, and a few test subjects) please step forward.  Any student with insight into this situation may contact me privately and I will keep his information confidential, you may have my word.  Similarly, if there is any student whose specialization lies in investigation or the solving of mysteries, I would be forever indebted to him for his help in this matter--and I mean indebted quite literally.  If exceptional rewards are your cup of tea, find me that perp! find my lost objects or point me in their direction, and you shall have your rewards...

That said, students, do not forget to lock up your valuables.  Do not be a fool like me  You can never be too careful, you know.

Educational Magnificence [Aug. 4th, 2009|01:10 pm]
ATTENTION NEOPOLIS ACADEMY
As all our projects seem to be complete this little baby project has finally culminated in a fantastically engaging conclusion of educational magnificence, I would like to draw the students' attention back to our other courses available at this fine institution. I do hope you are all beginning to charge up those little brains for the final stretch of the term.

Following on the coattails of a popular theme here, next week I will be giving a short lecture on some of the recent advances in the science of reanimation. Nothing our esteemed Dean von Kyphos hasn't already covered in much greater detail for those of you in the Gothic's seminar, I am sure, but a different perspective is presumably informative nonetheless, no? Open to the general public, feel free to attend and/or invite outside guests (and I would be much obliged to see the latter occur in great volume).

A Brief Notice on Babies [Jul. 25th, 2009|10:54 am]
ATTENTION STUDENTS OF SCIENCE

Among the voices of so many displeased or otherwise innovative professors I want to be clear: as I have yet to condemn the presence of any animatronic children thus far, babies are permitted in the laboratories under my supervision.  Keep them happy, safe, and silent.  This is all part of the learning, no?  Next week we will take some time to discuss child safety among the various machinery and chemicals of our profession, including constructing baby carriers as radiation shields.

Any student not in either of my classes who may have an interest in the subject of laboratory baby safety is welcome to attend.

Bonne chance, mes petits parents!

Snowmopoker! [Jul. 21st, 2009|02:42 pm]
[Filtered to Faculty]

Due to the unfortunate loss of our dear Doctor Diamond at present, I have decided to take it upon myself to host this week's poker night.  And thanks to the assistance of the illustrious M. Longstaff, you can expect us to have a fine party prepared for you.  Of course, when volunteering, I thought M. Snowmobiler would be out of town, but as it seems, he will be on-hand to entertain his guests after all.  On a similar note, my sister, Belle is still in town, and will be gracing us with her presence as well.  I trust she will mix in well enough (rather like hydrocarbon interconversing with an oxidant, I imagine).  Still, I can promise you a comfortable sitting area and plenty of wine.

I hope you all can make it! Just mind the pottery along the entryway when you arrive, eh?

She is coming in to Neopolis for a visit, and I can't leave that girl alone anywh she is interested to see where all the magic happens (or Science, as it were; not to worry, we won't be dealing with any of that magic sort, mes chers). Her name is Belle Curie. Do be nice.

ATTENTION SCIENCE FACULTY STUDENTS

I would like to take a moment to remind those of you in the Science Faculty--particularly any of you enrolled in one of my courses--of the academy lab facilities at your disposal. There are large refrigerators, cabinets, tables, shelves, and trays free for student use. Refrigeration of any and all science experiments in domestic spaces is explicitly prohibited. Any failure to comply with these academy regulations will be severely reprimanded. By me personally, if necessary.

In our lab space you will notice a few extra items stored in the third cabinet on the second wall. This cabinet will be locked. However, if you should stumble upon its contents, I ask that you please keep clear of the items in question. This is where I will be storing my personal research materials for the duration of the term, and I would be much obliged if they were left in peaceful, stabilized containment.

Many thanks
